The School of Health and Applied Human Sciences (SHAHS) in the College of Health and Human Services at the University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW) seeks a qualified applicant for the position of Lecturer in the PED 101, Physical Activity & Wellness, University Studies program beginning August 1, 2012.
Required qualifications for applicants include a Master’s degree in Physical Education, Health, Exercise Science, Recreation or related field with 18 hours of graduate coursework closely related to the content of PED 101 (See http://uncw.edu/shahs/ped101.html for a description of the PED 101 program). With respect to teaching, applicants shall be able to demonstrate an ability to teach lifetime-based physical activities from a wellness perspective (i.e., walking, jogging, cycling, swimming, total body conditioning, etc.) and have experience in teaching the multidimensional aspect of wellness, behavior change strategies, and physical activity program planning (balanced cardiovascular, resistance, and flexibility programs). Applicants shall also have the ability to design unique, effective lesson plans to teach self-management skills (i.e., self-assessment, goal setting, decision-making, problem solving) and promote success and enjoyment and demonstrate ability to effectively teach, manage, and engage students in physical activity labs and lecture settings. Preference will be given to candidates who have at least 2 years College/University level teaching experience, strongcomputer/technology and troubleshooting skills, including the use of Blackboard, Microsoft Office, and SharePoint. ACSM, or other physical activity-related certifications, is also preferred.
