The University of North Carolina, Wilmington, is recruiting for a Director of Development for Major Gifts. The Director will function as a member of a team of development and advancement professionals and a member of the University Advancement staff. Reporting to the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Advancement, this position will work with senior administration and volunteers to identify, cultivate and solicit prospective major donors.
Located in southeastern North Carolina within minutes of the Atlantic Ocean, UNC Wilmington is one of 17 constituent campuses of the University of North Carolina. Responsibilities: The responsibilities of a Director of Development for Major Gifts includes serving on a team charged with managing UNCW’s development efforts as they relate to major gift prospect identification, major donor relationship nurturing, and solicitation and stewardship in order to reach the strategic and foremost fundraising objectives of the university. This position fits into the development (major gifts) unit within the development unit within the division focusing exclusively on front line fundraising, in the major gift arena. Extensive interaction with external constituencies entails a significant part of the responsibilities of this position. Secondary duties include consultation for and attendance to activities essential to effective development work including development articles for campus publications, public relations materials and special events. Most travel is in regional area with occasional out of state travel.
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelors degree required with a minimum of a five-year demonstrated track record of public or private development efforts, preferably in the non-profit or higher education sector. Preferred qualifications include master’s degree and experience managing relationships with high-level prospects in an effort to secure major gifts.
