The University of North Carolina Wilmington is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Director of Student Leadership and Engagement.  This position cultivates a dynamic, experiential, and student-centered environment that provides a model of excellence for leadership and service, enabling students to enhance skills and competencies most sought by today’s employers, and prepare them for a life of leadership and community engagement.  Reporting to the Associate Vice Chancellor/Dean of Students, this individual factors prominently in UNCW’s goal of helping to create the best and brightest graduates, who will be able to compete at the highest levels for jobs and graduate study, leveraging the knowledge, skills and competencies they learned at UNCW in ways that will couch them for future success in myriad capacities. 

The Director of Student Leadership and Engagement is responsible for coordinating a comprehensive leadership program that creates intentional opportunities for all students to identify and enhance their leadership potential; expanding engagement and community service and volunteer experiences which promote civic engagement and citizenship; designing and delivering materials, programs and seminars on principles and practices of leadership and service.  This person will also establish leadership certification levels for students in the professional schools and signature programs in the College of Arts & Sciences.  The person in this position also facilitates annual awards and recognition programs, in addition to providing support and input on student ethical development, senior seminar (“Taking Flight” program), and the annual Student Leadership Conference.  As a member of the Student Affairs Leadership Team the successful candidate will provide direction to the Division as it pertains to leadership, engagement and other key issues related to students and student life on campus.

The candidate must hold a masters degree in Student Development, Leadership, Counseling or Higher Education Administration, or related field of study, and at least five years of professional experience in a higher education setting with an emphasis on student leadership and engagement. A doctorate degree with previous experience in service-learning and other dynamic experiential learning programs is preferred.
