The College of Health and Human Services (CHHS) at the University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW) seeks a dynamic academic leader for the position of Associate Dean of Research and Innovation beginning July 1, 2014. The College of Health and Human Services was created in July 2010 to provide UNCW with a new mechanism to link and focus its health-related research, professional continuing education, and knowledge dissemination and application. In the formative stage of development, the CHHS is currently home to three professional schools: School of Health and Applied Human Sciences, School of Nursing, and School of Social Work.
Applicants must hold a terminal degree in a discipline within the umbrella of health and human services or in a closely-related field, with a distinguished teaching record, significant professional service, a scholarly record of research publications/presentations, and external funding suitable for tenure at the rank of full professor. Strong communication, management and team building skills and a successful record of effective administrative leadership are compulsory. Most importantly, the successful candidate must be an active scholar with a history of successful external funding for research and/or innovative programs within health and human services. Preference will be given to candidates who have demonstrated experience with inter-professional and/or trans-disciplinary and innovative approaches to scholarly activity within health and human services.
The Associate Dean reports directly to the Dean of the CHHS. The Associate Dean will work closely with the CHHS Leadership Team and the CHHS faculty on research, interprofessional collaboration and innovations. Successful candidates will support and nurture the development and maintenance of faculty and student research programs, publications, community-based research collaborations and externally funded research and service activities across CHHS. The Associate Dean will facilitate management of research space/labs and assist with procurement of research equipment for faculty and students. The Associate Dean will also serve as the CHHS liaison with the UNCW Office of Research Services, the Center for the Support of Undergraduate Research and Fellowships and the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship. In addition, the Associate Dean will mentor faculty in publishing and grant writing as well as facilitate innovations and product development that advances health and human services.
