The College of Arts and Sciences at the University of North Carolina Wilmington seeks an experienced professional to coordinate the College’s assessment through leadership, guidance, and support to faculty as they plan, assess, and evaluate their programs and students. The Director will ensure that assessment programs and activities are properly designed, administered, and analyzed to advance the effectiveness of the College of Arts and Sciences.
Primary Responsibilities: In consultation with CAS administrators and faculty, the Director will coordinate and serve as the primary resource for the development, implementation, and refinement of program assessment plans. The Director will work closely with each CAS department to promote the understanding, articulation, and documentation of student learning outcomes. The Director will also represent the College and work closely with the university Learning Assessment Council and the university Director of Academic Assessment. The Director will also be responsible for assisting with regional accreditation activities, keeping abreast of assessment best practices nationally, and helping to foster a collaborative culture emphasizing continuous improvement in the quality of education at UNCW. The Director will report to the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. The College of Arts and Sciences at UNCW includes 23 academic departments and offers 42 undergraduate majors, 43 undergraduate minors, and 14 graduate programs.
Requirements: Master’s degree, Ph.D. preferred (collateral faculty appointment may be considered based on experience and credentials); three years of experience in higher education student-learning-outcomes assessment and educational program review; understanding of institutional accreditation criteria; leadership approach with strong collaborative, interpersonal and team-building style for establishing and maintaining collegial working relationships with faculty and administrators; excellent communication skills both verbal and written; excellent skills in data collection, management and analysis, project and program management, and the technology skills required to support these activities.
