Academic Affairs is searching for a Director for the Center for Faculty Leadership. The Center for Faculty Leadership (CFL) at the University of North Carolina Wilmington is dedicated to providing information and assistance to faculty members interested in developing new pedagogical techniques, research initiatives and leadership skills. The CFL serves as a resource for individuals with aspirations for academic leadership and as a training center for newly appointed department chairs, division coordinators and program directors. As a partner in the Community of Scholars, the Center for Faculty Leadership supports collaborative initiatives by both member units and faculty members.
The Director of CFL will deliver information and assistance through a variety of venues such as brown bag lunchtime discussions, workshops, guest speakers, conferences, networking and alliance building and opportunities for mentoring and shadowing with senior administrators. The Director of CFL will be expected to partner with the Center for Teaching Excellence director and other Community of Scholars programs on joint projects which enhance faculty development such as the University Faculty Mentoring Program.
The Director is expected to be a respected teacher and scholar with academic leadership experience. Important characteristics of the successful candidate include:
1) the ability to work with diverse academic and administrative groups
2) a demonstrated record of interest in administrative leadership development
3) an interest in working with faculty and administrators at all stages of leadership development
This is an at will appointment. This appointment is normally held for three years and may be renewed following review. Salary will be commensurate with rank and experience. The Director reports directly to the Associate Vice Chancellor for Faculty Support and Development.
Required Qualifications:
Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree in the applicant’s field.
Must have a rank of tenured Associate Professor or Full Professor.
Preferred Qualifications:
Prior administrative experience as a Director, Department Chair or Associate Dean
Grant Writing Experience
