ASSISTANT PROFESSOR SPECIALIZING IN

The Department of Environmental Studies invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level in geographic information systems and remote sensing to begin August 2008.  We seek applicants able to integrate GIS with university strengths in environmental studies, biology, geography and/or marine sciences.  Knowledge of one or more of the following is also desirable: database systems and design, object-oriented systems, image processing, photogrammetry, geodesy, and spatial statistics with applications to modern environmental problems. Candidates should demonstrate an ability and willingness to develop and teach undergraduate and graduate courses in spatial information systems along with additional undergraduate and graduate courses in area of specialization and core courses in EVS.  Development of a dedicated GIS laboratory and vigorous, externally funded research program are expected. Ph.D. required. UNCW is located five miles from the Atlantic Ocean on a beautiful 656-acre campus in the historic port city of Wilmington on the Cape Fear River.  The University currently enrolls more than 11,000 students.
