UNCW is a dynamic and growing campus of the 16-campus UNC system situated on 640 acres in the historic port of Wilmington, five miles from the Atlantic Ocean. The University is rated as one of the top 10 public universities in the south by US News and World Report. Current enrollment is 10,700 undergraduates and 1,200 graduate students. UNCW and the Watson School value and reward undergraduate and graduate teaching, encourage and support faculty research and sustain a high level of service to public education and the profession. The Watson School of Education has just established the university’s second doctoral degree in response to needs expressed by educators in the region, with whom faculty work closely. The school is accredited by NCATE and all programs are approved by the state of North Carolina. The WSE is housed in a new state-of-the-art education building.
Assistant or Associate Professor of Elementary Language and Literacy Education to join our Department of Elementary, Middle Level, and Literacy Education in August, 2008 to:
- Develop and teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the department with a major responsibility to teach at our extension site in Jacksonville, North Carolina (about 60 miles north of Wilmington), including technology enhanced and on-line courses in language and literacy
- Maintain an active research agenda
- Assist in ongoing program revision and assessment
- Provide leadership and service to our school, university, region, state and to the profession
Requirements include: Doctorate in language and literacy or related field, eligible for or currently hold the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, a record of scholarly productivity, evidence of teaching excellence, eligible for North Carolina licensure in the appropriate area and a strong commitment to B-12 partnership approaches. Experience with diverse learners, supervision of teacher interns, and use of current technology is desirable. Program information available at http://www.uncw.edu/ed/emlle/elementary/index.html
