Spanish Armada

  • An overall "C" (2.00) average is required in all History courses applied toward the major.  Only courses earning "C-" or above may be applied toward the major.
  • Students are required to take a minimum of 6 hours of seminar work selected from 400-level courses, HST 491, 498, 499 excepted. No more than six hours of HST 491 and 495 can be counted toward the major.
  • Students are required to complete at least one 300-400 level course in each of the following areas: European, U.S., and one other from Africa, Asia, Latin America or the Middle East.
  • History majors seeking teaching certification in Social Studies must complete a total of 21 hours collateral, including PLS 101 and at least one course in each of the following area (advisor approval required): Sociology/Anthropology, Economics, and Geography.
  • For information on the Teacher Education Program admissions criteria and the courses required for licensure (i.e., certification) in North Carolina, contact the School of Education. Students planning to pursue licensure should apply to the Watson School of Education as soon as admissions requirements are met (typically in the sophomore year), and plan their programs in regular consultation with their advisors. Teacher certification requirement are established at the state level and may be changed by the state at any time.
  • Incoming freshman may qualify for the Wade Scholarship, renewable over four years.
