Committed Faculty

Public history students have access to all of the members of the UNCW History Faculty, but three scholars have particular responsibilities for the program.

 

Dr. William D. Moore author of Masonic Temples: Freemasonry, Ritual Architecture, and Masculine Archetypes, former Executive Director, Enfield Shaker Museum, New Hampshire, and past Director of the Livingston Masonic Library and Museum, New York City, directs the program. Dr. Moore has wide-ranging interests in American history, material culture and the built environment. He currently is on the board of the Historic Wilmington Foundation and the Old Baldy Foundation, and in the past has served as a director of the Victorian Society in America and the Vernacular Architecture Forum.

Dr. Monica Gisolfi, a Southern history scholar and Dr. Tammy S. Gordon http://people.uncw.edu/stonegordont/ a museum studies specialist also work closely with public history students.

In designing an individual course of study, public history students may also work with departmental faculty, including Kathleen Berkeley (women's history), Glen Harris (African American history), Andrew Clark (oral history), Chris Fonvielle (Civil War) David La Vere , (Native American history), William McCarthy (maritime history), Alan Watson (North Carolina history), or any of the other members of the history faculty . In addition, students may choose two graduate elective outside the history department in fields such as historical geography, historical archaeology, public administration, and art history.
