I AM UNCW:
Larry Wray has the life.
Since 2011, Wray has served as the Executive Director of Campus Life. With a mission to serve as the center of campus, Campus Life includes the Campus Activities and Involvement Center, Campus Life Arts and Programs, Conference Services, Student Media, and the Facilities and Services and Reservations offices.
Managing the various facilities and program is "a total team effort," says Wray. He credits staff members who embrace the mission of serving students at all levels and the 120 student employees who "deliver our services and guide our decision making."
"I am surrounded by others who share the same joy in fostering connections to the campus and serving as a gathering place for the campus community," he says. Wray enjoys the family atmosphere that has developed within the Campus Life team and often brings his wife and three daughters to campus events.
Wray previously served as the associate director of housing and residence life at UNCW, also in the Division of Student Affairs. That role helped him better understand the issues facing students and what they value and need on a daily basis. "It formed the professional foundation for everything I do and aids me as I help set the vision for the types of experiences we want students to have when they interact with Campus Life."
Wray says the greatest challenge facing his area right now is meeting the space and technology needs of all of the constituents UNCW serves - students, faculty and staff, and the community - while ensuring quality service.
"We are also working hard to keep up with the needs of our ever growing number of student organizations. This is a great “problem” to have."
