UNCW's Office of Financial Aid & Veteran's Services is located on-campus in
King Hall. Individual Financial Aid Counselors are assigned to each enrolled UNCW student . A "Counselor-of-the-day" is also available for walk-in advising. Their website provides up to
date FAQ's for Study Abroad, Important Study Abroad forms (Study Abroad Information Sheet and Checklist, Cost of Attendance) and helpful information about deadlines. Paper versions of these important forms can be obtained by going in person to King Hall and requesting a Study Abroad packet.

UNCW Office of International Programs' Education Abroad Grant

The Office of International Programs is please to fund a number of education abroad grants awarded based on academic qualifications including references and GPA, financial need, and a personal essay. All full-time UNCW students earning academic credit abroad on a semester or year-long UNCW education abroad program may apply. Grants awarded generally range from $200-700. Summer study abroad applicants are not eligible to apply for grant funds but we hope to make funds available for summer education abroad grants in the future. awarded based on academic qualifications including an academic reference, academic record, and a personal essay.  Any full-time UNCW student earning academic credit abroad on a UNCW-sponsored summer study abroad program may apply.  Grants awarded generally range from $200-$700 and are awarded annually in spring. Stella Doran International Studies Award

This special award is presented in memory of Stella Doran by her beloved husband Edward and their son Dr. Guy Doran.  Mrs. Doran, a “woman of the world,” enjoyed travel and serving the community with compassion and generosity of spirit.  In order to treasure her memory and to support study abroad opportunities for travel-loving students, The Dorans are contributing over $25,000 for UNCW students with financial needs and high merit.  Rising juniors and seniors with at least a 3.0 G.P.A and a demonstrated financial need may apply.  Applicants for this award could be granted $500 to $1000 by completing the Office of International Program Application for Education Abroad Grant.

New York Community Trust-Annette Kade Scholarship for use on ISEP Exchange Programs

Grants will be awarded to U.S. ISEP exchange participants in order to encourage students with a genuine interest in study abroad, who do not have sufficient financial resources, to apply for a placement in France or Germany. The target audience for these scholarships is students wishing to pursue study at one of the German or French ISEP member institutions during the spring semester. The award criteria for the scholarships include academic background, desire to improve language ability, genuine financial need, and responses to essay questions. The deadline for the first round of applications is Wednesday, April 30th 2008 for students planning to study abroad during semester 1 or the full academic year. A second application round will occur for semester 2 students in the fall, with a deadline of October 10th. Phi Kappa Phi Study Abroad Grants

The Dvelo Fund

The Dvelo Fund is a fellowship program designed to give students the opportunity to study developmental issues in the underdeveloped world.

The aim of the Fund is to support the education of undergraduates wishing to travel to developing countries in order to conduct firsthand research or become involved with the developmental efforts of that region or country. Information can be found at: http://dvelofund.org/

 

German Academic Exchange Service

The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) is the German national agency for the support of international academic cooperation. They offer programs and funding for students, faculty, researchers and others in higher education, providing financial support to over 50,000 individuals per year. Brochure (.pdf)

 

UAS7 (a consortium of 7 leading German Universities of Applied Sciences)

UAS7, a consortium of 7 leading German Universities of Applied Sciences, Offers a joint scholarship program SIP(Study & Internship in Germany) in cooperation with the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). They will be granting 45 scholarships for the academic year 2008/09. This is a unique opportunity for students to accelerate their personal and intellectual growth and to add invaluable academic and professional credentials to their resume. The program consists of:  

-  A full academic semester of study abroad at one of the UAS7universities in Germany

-  A one-semester professional internship experience in a company or research institute in Germany.

All applicants selected for the program will receive a generous monthly scholarship for the duration of the study semester, and a stipend for the duration of the internship semester. For complete details about the program, please visit www.uas7.org

 

BUTEX (British Universities Transatlantic Exchange Association)

This organization offers eight scholarships to US/Canadian students who will be studying as exchange students in the UK at universities who are BUTEX members. The value of each scholarship is US$1000 and will be paid to the winners once they have arrived and registered at their host university. Payment will be made to a UK bank account in the sterling equivalent of $1000. The deadline for applying is September 1.

Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program

This scholarship provides awards for US undergraduate students who are receiving federal Pell Grant funding at a 2-year or 4-year college or university to participate in study abroad programs worldwide. Award amounts will vary depending on the length of study and student need with the average award being $4,000 (maximum award: $5,000). Students who are receiving federal Pell Grant funding at 2-year or 4-year undergraduate colleges or universities are eligible to apply.


Graduate Students Fellowship
The National Science Foundation (NSF) and the Institute of International Education (IIE) are pleased to announce the Central Europe Summer Research Institute (CESRI). CESRI is a fellowship opportunity for U.S. graduate students in science and engineering who are seeking a quality hands-on international research experience in Austria, the Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, Poland or Slovakia. 

 

The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD)
Offers the program RISE (Research Internships in Science and Engineering). In addition we will also offer RISE professional, the new sister program to RISE for industry internships in Germany.

 

Japanese Student Services Organization (JASSO)

JASSO offers a number of scholarshpis for study in Japan. For example, the Short-term Student Exchage Program Scholarship is available for qualified international students accepted by Japanese universities or graduate schools under the student exchange agreement on a short-term basis from about three months to one year. This scholarship awards a monthly stipend: ¥80,000 per month (up to 12 months) and a relocation allowance: ¥150,000(upon arrival only ). The Bridging Scholarship Japan
The Bridging Scholarship program awards scholarships to American students participating in study-abroad programs in Japan. Undergraduate students majoring in any field of study and attending any recognized exchange or independent program in Japan are eligible to apply for these scholarships.  Recipients of Bridging Scholarships will receive stipends ranging from $2,500 to $4,000, depending on the length of their study program in Japan. The scholarships are funded by donations from U.S. corporations and foundations to the US-Japan Bridging Foundation.  Selection will be based on academic potential and financial need. The scholarships are administered by the Association of Teachers of Japanese. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents.

 

Morgan Stanley Scholarships for Study in Japan
Morgan Stanley is awarding two $7,500 scholarships to US students who will be studying in Japan.

 

National Security Education Program
Awards scholarships to American students for study of world regions critical to U.S. interests (including Africa, Asia, Central and Eastern Europe, Eurasia, Latin America, Caribbean and the Middle East). NSEP, provides American undergraduates with the resources and encouragement they need to acquire skills and experiences in areas of the world critical to the future of U.S. interests in exchange for a commitment to seek work in the federal government.


National Security Language Initiative (NSLI)
This is a U.S. government interagency effort to expand dramatically the number of Americans studying and mastering critical need foreign languages, the Department of State Critical Language Scholarships will provide funding for U.S. citizen undergraduate, master’s and Ph.D. students to participate in beginning, intermediate and advanced level summer language programs at American Overseas Research Centers.Recipients of these scholarships will be expected to continue their language study.

 

Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange for Young Professionals
A federally-funded scholarship exchange to Germany for a year of study and internship.No prior knowledge of German is required.It is funded by the US Congress and the German Bundestag.2 months of intensive German language training, 1 semester at a German university or professional school, 5 month internship with a German company or organization-placement in a host family. The ideal candidate:US citizen between 18 and 24 years old-interested in German and international affairs-flexible and independent. The application deadline is December 1st.

 

Freeman-ASIA
Freeman-ASIA (Freeman Awards for Study in Asia) is designed to support American undergraduates with demonstrated financial need who are planning on studying overseas in East or Southeast Asia.  Freeman-ASIA Award recipients are expected to share their experiences with their home campuses to encourage study abroad in Asia by others, and to spread greater understanding of Asian peoples and cultures within their home communities.  Eligible study abroad programs must be a minimum of 8 weeks for a summer term, 10 weeks for a quarter term, and 12 weeks for a semester term.  Freeman-ASIA Award benefits are determined by the eligibility of the program and the financial need of the grantee.  Typical award payments are $3,000 for summer programs, $5,000 for a semester abroad and $7,000 for a full academic year.

 

Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarships
Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarship are designed to further international understanding and friendly relations among people of different countries.  There are several types of scholarships including: Ambassadorial Year Scholarships (1 academic year); Multi-year Scholarships (2-3 years); and Cultural Scholarships (3-6 months).

Students must have completed at least two years of college when the scholarship begins; must be citizen of a country in which there is a Rotary Club; and lineal descendants (children or grandchildren) of Rotarians and their spouses are ineligible.  The value of the scholarships is: Ambassadorial (academic year): funding of tuition, transportation, books and supplies up to $23,000. Multi-Year Ambassadorial: flat grant of approximately $11,000 or its equivalent for each year. Cultural Ambassadorial: travel, tuition and fees and living expenses for the study period. (Note: amounts are subject to change from year to year.)  Initial applications can be made through your local Rotary club, and application deadlines are also set by individual clubs, varying from early March to July 15 of the application year.

 

Frank O' Neill Memorial Scholarship

The 2007 Frank O' Neill Memorial Scholarship is open to anyone attending a university, college, trade school, technical institute, vocational training or other post-secondary education program in the 2007-2008 or 2008-2009 academic year. In addition, eligible students may not have already been receiving or awarded a full-tuition scholarship or waiver from another source. This means that you can not apply if you already have 100% of your school paid for. International students are welcome to apply.

 

SWEA North Carolina- Study in Sweden
Each year, SWEA North Carolina (the NC chapter of an international Swedish-speaking women's organization called SWEA) awards one or more scholarships to a student planning to study Swedish culture, traditions, history or the Swedish language, or to spread knowledge about any of these in the United States. Diversity Scholarships for U.S. Study Abroad

 

The ISA Diversity Scholarship

The ISA Diversity Scholarship is open to those students who wish to bring a broader cultural perspective to their overseas group, as well as those who are dedicated to encouraging other multicultural students on their home campus to participate in international education programs. 

Scholarships are available for participants in ISA semester and summer programs.

DiversityAbroad.com is proud to announce three scholarships aimed at increasing participation among minority students in education abroad:

1. Study Abroad in Turkey African-American Scholarship
The Turkish Coalition of America (TCA) in cooperation with DiversityAbroad.com are awarding up to 50 grants per year in the amount of $2,000 for full-time African-American undergraduates who have been accepted to a study abroad program in Turkey for a semester or a year.

2. DiversityAbroad.com Blog Abroad Grant
Diversity Abroad has long realized that students have the ability to encourage and inspire other students to go abroad. To help foster peer-to-peer communication and encouragement, Diversity Abroad is offering a grant for traditionally under-represented minority students to share their experiences abroad with the DiversityAbroad.com community.

3. DiversityAbroad.com Summer Scholarship (sponsored by AIFS)
DiversityAbroad.com, in cooperation with AIFS, will award five, $2,000 scholarships for students studying abroad during the summer 2008. Recipients must be a traditionally under-represented minority student and studying abroad on a DiversityAbroad.com Member program (see list of DiversityAbroad.com member organizations here.)
