01/30/07 Announcement:  Deron Fort appointed as UNCW’s new Early College High School Liaison

Last August Wilmington gained a new, experimental high school, and UNCW is working with New Hanover County Schools to make it a success.  Isaac Bear Early College High School has 97 ninth graders who are taking an accelerated curriculum which will lead them to finish the basic high school requirements next year. As 11th graders they will begin taking college courses at UNCW and could finish high school with up to 60 college credits.

With funding by a grant from the New Schools Project in Raleigh, UNCW has hired a Deron Fort to help Isaac Bear students and teachers interface with UNCW.  Fort comes to the liaison position with over five years of experience serving the Watson School of Education as Field Experience Coordinator.  He has also served for over four years as a University College advisor and Freshman Seminar instructor, working closely with undeclared students in their first few semesters at UNCW.

Deron is looking forward to serving in the role of Early College Liaison, helping to make this exciting partnership a success and cultivating the many ways it can benefit UNCW and enhance the goals of the university.
