Q: How many students are enrolled at Isaac Bear?
A: As of fall 2008, there are 198 students enrolled in the program, with 3 cohorts in place: 72 juniors, 75 sophomores, and 51 freshmen.
Q: What type of student does IBEC recruit?
A: 1. New Hanover County students who are academically proficient (have passed
all End-of-Grade tests) and represent the diversity of the community and New
Hanover County School System.
2. Students who are motivated by the Early College concept, which includes
rigorous academic standards and high expectations, but no sports teams, music
or arts programs; instead they have the opportunity to experience a university
campus and get a head start on college at no cost to them.
3. Typically underrepresented groups in college populations, such as minorities,
low-income students, and students who would be the first in their families to go
to college.
Q: What is the current IBEC student profile?
A: It is not simply an elite group, nor is it a group of low-performers. Information regarding percentages of students from historically underrepresented populations will be updated shortly. Thank you for your patience.
