Information Technology Systems is pleased to announce that Alyssa Gandhi, a UNCW senior and student worker at B1NAR1ES Tech Store, recently received a 2013 Cornerstone Distinguished Service Award which was presented to her at the Cornerstone Awards Banquet on Wednesday, April 17.
According to Phoebe Tseh, her supervisor at B1NAR1ES, “Since Alyssa has been working at B1NAR1ES, I have come to realize that her ethics, work habits and accountability are among the very highest I have seen in an undergraduate student. She has an infectious optimism about her that spreads to our other student workers, and she has served as a mentor for them in many capacities.”
While maintaining a 3.9 GPA, this Honors student works 2-3 nights per week at Coastal Horizons, an agency which provides support for those in need of crisis intervention. She also serves as the guardian for the 8-10 foster children who reside in the facility under protected services.
Alyssa has also been nominated for the prestigious Rachael Freeman Service Leadership Award and is now one of three students still in the running for it. The winner will be announced at the Senior Excellence Luncheon on May 10.
Alyssa will be attending NC State University in the fall to pursue a Master's degree in Psychology.
