Installing the Premier Assistive Technology Software
Note: This software can be installed on any UNCW owned machine. It cannot be installed on any student machines nor can it be installed on personal machines of faculty or staff members even if you those personal machines are being used for work.
There are many different programs in the Premier Assistive suite.
We suggest you do not install the Talking Web Browser program (also called Off Limits) as it is similar to parental controls and will limit your web browsing ability. There are other programs that require scanners so you will only want to install them if you have a scanner connected to the computer.

To install the Premier Assistive application, please follow these steps exactly:
I. Right click on My Network Places on your desktop and select Search for Computers… . Enter techsupport as the computer name and then click on the Search button.
II. Double click on the techsupport computer that is found, double click on Resources and then double click on the folder called Disability Services Software.
III. Double click on the folder called Premier Accessibility Suite 2.0 and then double click on the file called setup1.exe
A. Click on the first button Text Cloner Pro (43.14Mb)
Text Cloner Pro© is a scanning package designed to work with your screen reader's own voice capabilities. It features a high-performance Optical Character Recognition (OCR) engine, as well as a built-in spell checker. One-touch functionality means all important tasks can be accomplished with a single keystroke.1. When the Welcome screen comes up, click on Next.
2. Click Next to accept the default location for the installation (C:\Program Files\Text Cloner).
3. Click Next to accept Text Cloner Pro as the Program Manager Group name.
4. Click Next to proceed with the installation.
5. Click Finish to complete the installation of Text Cloner Pro.
B. Click on the Complete Reading System button (44.69Mb)
The Complete Reading System© is an easy to use, self contained OCR/Reading program with full talking menus. The full talking menus mean you won't need a screen reader to navigate through the settings. The system works equally well on desktops or laptops because it doesn't require an external keypad.1. When the Welcome screen comes up, click on Next.
2. Click Next after reading the Copyright information screen.
3. Click Next to accept the default location for the installation (C:\Program Files\CRS).
4. Select Yes when asked about creating backups of replaced files and click Next.
5. Click Next to accept Complete Reading System as the Program Manager Group name.
6. Click Next to proceed with the installation.
Note: Many of the Premier Assistive Programs require a Text-to-Speech program and will attempt to install it along with the original program you selected. Instructions for installing the Text-to-Speech program are below. (3.95Mb)
a. Click Next to accept the default location to save files (C:\Program Files\Chant\SpeechKit 3.0).
b. Click Next to begin the install of the Text-to-Speech portion of the program.
c. Click Yes to accept the license agreement.
d. Enter your name and organization and select to install the application for anyone who uses this computer (all users) and click Next.
e. Click Install to proceed with the installation of the Text-to-Speech program.
f. Click Finish to complete the installation of SAPI 5.1 Text-to-Speech program.
7. Click Finish to complete the installation of the Complete Reading System.
C. Click on the Talking Word Processor button (15.77Mb)
Talking Word Processor© is an easy-to-use word processing program designed to help people who have difficulty with reading and writing.1. When the Welcome screen comes up, click on Next.
2. Click Next after reading the Copyright information.
3. Click Next to accept the default location for the installation (C:\Program Files\TWP).
4. Select Yes when asked about creating backups of replaced files and click Next.
5. Click Next to accept Talking Word Processor as the Program Manager Group name.
6. Click Next to proceed with the installation.
7. Click Next to accept the default location to save files (C:\Program Files\Chant\SpeechKit 3.0).
8. If asked if you want to replace files, click No to All and proceed to step 9 below. If you are NOT asked to replace files, see item 6. steps b.-f. under section B and then return to item 12 below.
9. Click Cancel as the Text-to-Speech program has already been installed.
10. Click Yes to confirm the cancellation of Text-to-Speech installation.
11. Click Finish to finish the cancellation of the Text-to-Speech program.
12. Click Finish to complete the installation of Scan and Read Pro.
D. Click on the Scan and Read Pro button (10.91Mb)
Full-powered scanning application with full voice capabilities for reading combined with electronic document creation (including multi-lingual support in the Pro version) with easy to use controls that get you up an running quickly.1. When the Welcome screen comes up, click on Next.
2. Click Next after reading the Copyright information screen.
3. Click Next to accept the default location for the installation (C:\Program Files\Scan-n-read-pro).
4. Select Yes when asked about creating backups of replaced files and click Next.
5. Click Next to accept Scan and Read Pro as the Program Manager Group name.
6. Click Next to proceed with the installation.
7. Click Next to accept the default location to save files (C:\Program Files\Chant\SpeechKit 3.0).
8. If asked if you want to replace files, click No to All and proceed to step 9 below. If you are NOT asked to replace files, see item 6. steps b.-f. under section B and then return to item 12 below.
9. Click Cancel as the Text-to-Speech program has already been installed.
10. Click Yes to confirm the cancellation of Text-to-Speech installation.
11. Click Finish to finish the cancellation of the Text-to-Speech program.
12. Click Finish to complete the installation of Scan and Read Pro.
Note: DO NOT install the Talking Web Browser program.
This is similar to parental controls on a web browser and will limit the types of sites and files you can access in your web browser.
E. Click on the AT&T Natural Voices button (464Mb).
1. Click Next to continue with the installation.
2. When the Welcome screen comes up, click on Next.
3. Select “I accept the terms of the license agreement” and click Next.
4. Enter your name and organization, select to install the application for anyone who uses this computer (all users) and click Next.
5. Click Next to accept the default location for the installation
(C:\Program Files\ATTNaturalVoices\TTS1.4\Desktop).6. Select Typical installation and click Next.
7. Click Install to proceed with the installation.
8 Click Finish to complete the installation of AT&T Natural Voices.
9. Click OK on the notice about installing the Microsoft SAPI packages.
F. Click on the Scan and View button. (10.91Mb)
If you are like a lot of CCTV ("Closed Circuit TV") users, you often find yourself where your CCTV is not. This product solves that problem by turning a standard scanner into a CCTV.1. Click Next to continue with the installation.
2. Click Next after reading the Copyright information screen.
3. Click Next to accept the default location for the installation (C:\Program Files\Scan And View).
4. Click Next to accept Scan and View as the Program Manager Group name.
5. Click Next to proceed with the installation.
6. Click Finish to complete the installation.
G. Click on the Text-to-Audio button (23.08Mb)
A high-end application that can take existing digitized text files and convert them to multiple standard audio formats (e.g. WAVE, MP3 and 8 other formats). All audio files can be saved to other Media (diskettes, CD's) and played on other audio devices / systems. Version 6.0 can even burn CD's for you.1. Click Next to continue with the installation.
2. Click Next to accept the default location for the installation (C:\Program Files\Text-To-Audio).
3. Check just Voice Files (uncheck Microsoft SAPI 5.1) and click Next.
4. Click Next to accept Text-to-Audio as the Program Manager Group name.
5. Click Next to proceed with the installation.
6. Click Finish to complete the installation.
H. Click on the Talking Calculator button (16.9Mb)
This full functioning "talking calculator" can be used with or without a screen reader. Every button and edit area talks. It is easy to use with large keys and contrasting colors. It has three display areas, so when the user adds a series of numbers, the total is always displayed, even as you are entering a new number, while always displaying any numbers in memory. However, the feature that really sets it apart from other calculators is that it displays your entries and results as you work. It actually displays the equation so that you can easily see or hear your last process. When students are required to show their work, they can simply cut and paste the steps into a document.1. When the Welcome screen comes up, click on Next.
2. Click Next to accept the default location for the installation (C:\Program Files\Talking Calculator).
3. Click Next to accept Talking Calculator as the Program Manager Group name.
4. Click Next to proceed with the installation.
5. Click Next to accept the default location to save files (C:\Program Files\Chant\SpeechKit 3.0).
6. If asked if you want to replace files, click No to All and proceed to step 7 below. If you are NOT asked to replace files, see item 6. steps b.-f. under section B and then return to item 10 below.
7. Click Cancel as the Text-to-Speech program has already been installed.
8. Click Yes to confirm the cancellation of Text-to-Speech installation.
9. Click Finish to finish the cancellation of the Text-to-Speech program.
10. Click on Finish to complete the installation of the Talking Calculator.
I. Click on the Universal Reader button (2.2Mb)
The Universal Reader is a very easy-to-use utility that reads to you. The best part is that it works with virtually any application. Use it to read your email, your WORD documents, even PDF files. It is as simple as selecting what you want it to read and then click on the floating toolbar and it starts to read. It takes about 2 minutes to install and even less time to learn how to use it.1. When the Welcome screen comes up, click on Next.
2. Click Next to accept the default location for the installation (C:\Program Files\Ureader).
3. Click Next to accept U Reader as the Program Manager Group name.
4. Click Next to proceed with the installation.
5. Click Next to accept the default location to save files (C:\Program Files\Chant\SpeechKit 3.0).
6. If asked if you want to replace files, click No to All and proceed to step 7 below. If you are NOT asked to replace files, see item 6. steps b.-f. under section B and then return to item 10 below.
7. Click Cancel as the Text-to-Speech program has already been installed.
8. Click Yes to confirm the cancellation of Text-to-Speech installation.
9. Click Finish to finish the cancellation of the Text-to-Speech program.
10. Click on Finish to complete the installation of the Universal Reader.
J. Click on the Talking Dictionary button (38.46Mb)
A true "talking dictionary" for everyone. It has a comprehensive, unabridged dictionary and thesaurus combined that contains over 250,000 words, as well as historical people, places, technical jargon and slang....virtually any word that you would see in standard reading. The Ultimate Talking Dictionary works with any program (i.e. email, word processing, Internet). Just highlight a word, press a button and the UTD looks up the word and reads the definition back to you!1. Click on the button that corresponds to your Operating System.
2. When the Welcome screen comes up, click on Next.
3. Click Next to accept the default location for the installation (C:\Program Files\UTD).
4. Click Next to accept Ultimate Talking Dictionary as the Program Manager Group name.
5. Click Next to proceed with the installation.
6. Click Next to accept the default location to save files (C:\Program Files\Chant\SpeechKit 3.0).
7. If asked if you want to replace files, click No to All and proceed to step 8 below. If you are NOT asked to replace files, proceed to step 6.a. under section B and then return to item 11 below.
8. Click Cancel as the Text-to-Speech program has already been installed.
9. Click Yes to confirm the cancellation of Text-to-Speech installation.
10. Click Finish to finish the cancellation of the Text-to-Speech program.
11. Click on Finish to complete the installation of the Talking Dictionary.
12. Click on the Close button for the Talking Dictionary window.
K. Click on the PDF Magic button (28.86Mb)
PDF is a format created by the Adobe Systems Inc. It stands for “Portable Document Format”. These files are commonly used to distribute documents to multiple platforms. Adobe provides a free reader (Acrobat™) that will allow users to open a PDF document without having to have the software that created the document. PDF Magic can convert ALL types of PDF files including Encrypted, Password Protected, even those with imbedded text inside images into easy-to-use MS WORD or TEXT files! PDF Magic also reads documents to you with high-quality digital voices.1. When the Welcome screen comes up, click on Next.
2. Click Next to accept the default location for the installation (C:\Program Files\PDF Magic).
3. Click Next to accept PDF Magic as the Program Manager Group name.
4. Click Next to proceed with the installation.
5. Click Next to accept the default location to save files (C:\Program Files\Chant\SpeechKit 3.0).
6. If asked if you want to replace files, click No to All and proceed to step 7 below. If you are NOT asked to replace files, see item 6. steps b.-f. under section B and then return to item 10 below.
7. Click Cancel as the Text-to-Speech program has already been installed
8. Click Yes to confirm the cancellation of Text-to-Speech installation.
9. Click Finish to finish the cancellation of the Text-to-Speech program.
10. Click on Finish to complete the installation of PDF Magic.
V. Click on Close to close the Premier Assistive Technology Products installation window.
VI. Close the window displaying the Techsupport server by clicking on the X in the upper right corner of the window.
VII. Create a folder on the desktop called Premier Assistive Technology by right clicking on the desktop and selecting New and then Folder. Type Premier Assistive Technology and press the Enter key.
VIII. Create shortcuts in the new folder for each of the programs you just installed.
A. Double click on the Premier Assistive Technology folder.
B. Right click in the folder (in an empty area) and select New and then Shortcut.
C. Click the Browse button
D. Locate and select the file TextClonerpro.exe (C:\Program Files\Text Cloner) – To do this you'll need to go to:
1. My Computer
2. Local Disk (C:)
3. Program Files
4. Open the Text Cloner folder
5. Select the TextClonerpro.exe file and click OK
6. click on Next
E. Change the name of the shortcut to Text Cloner Pro and click Finish.
F. Follow the above steps (A. – D.) to create shortcuts in the Premier Assistive Technology folder for each of the following programs, manuals and help files (use the bolded text to name the shortcut and the information in parenthesis to locate the files):
