The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) is an act that is designed to protect the privacy of student educational records. Some of the protections under FERPA:
- Inability to post student grades listed by their name, social security number or by the last 4 digits of the SSN unless in a designated secure environment such as SEAWEB.
- Posting of records containing professor comments or grades.
- Notification to student prior to or at the time of enrollment that posting of their work is a course requirements.
- Have posted work only available to members of the class.
