Report Writing Strategy

ITSD is coordinating the transition of report writing to a new primary reporting tool – Microsoft SSRS (SQL Server Reporting Services) -- and a new preferred data repository – Sungard ODS.

• SSRS pilot group established October 12, 2007 to work with Banner data to develop SSRS reports. Group consists of Advancement, Finance, Financial Aid, Human Resources and Student report developers.
• New reports and conversion of existing reports to SSRS/ODS will be completed with close interaction between ITSD staff, report developers, and Banner data custodians.
• Each Banner module will follow a phased approach consisting of:
• Phase 1 (Analysis and Design) - Existing Banner data elements mapped to ODS and further required customizations defined.
• Phase 2 (Customized Views and Security) Customized views created and security roles established; initial reports completed.
• Phase 3 (Report Conversion) - Remaining reports converted by Banner report developers from Impromptu/WARE to SSRS/ODS.
• ITSD is working with report developers and Banner data custodians to finalize timelines for each Banner module (Advancement, Finance, Financial Aid, Human Resources and Student).
• The Human Resources conversion is already underway.

Training

SSRS training offered to report developers and consumers beginning January 2008.
