Writing and Editing

The right message expressed with the right words is vital to the success of any project. The writers and editors in MaC not only will help you tailor your message to your audience, but also make sure every comma, hyphen and tilde is in its proper place.

Here’s how the copy writing and editing process works:

If MaC is writing the copy for the product, the editor assigned to the project will need:

  1. Basic concept and facts (who, what, when, where, why and how)
  2. Primary source(s) with contact information
  3. Relevant references (e.g. previous publication, examples from other publications, etc.)

The MaC Lliaison will advise the client on the time necessary for completing the copy based on the size and complexity of the product.

If the client is providing copy for the product, it should be submitted according to the Copy Guidelines. The hard copy should the final approval authority’s signature.

The provided copy will be edited by MaC before being sent to design.

If editing is the product, the editor assigned to the project will need:

  1. Copy in electronic and/or hard copy format
  2. Contact information for primary source(s) for fact checking

Time required for editing:

1-2 pages         2 working days

3-5 pages         4 working days

5+ pages          1-2 weeks

Copy must be finalized before design begins.

Once copy is written and the MaC liaison receives the final approval authority signature, the project will move to design.

During Product Presentation:

Product mock-ups will be proofed by at least two MaC editors in addition to the client. The signoff by the final approval authority will apply to both copy and design.
