WAM 626- Live hooded seal stranded at Wrightsville
Veterinarian Claire Hohenwarter assesses the seal
The UNCW stranding program received a report from the Wrightsville Beach Police Department early in morning on September 15, 2006 of a live seal on the beach near the Oceanic Pier. Stranding team members from UNCW and the Fort Fisher Aquarium responded and found a live, juvenile hooded seal. After consulting with a veterinarian and colleagues from the Virginia Aquarium and Science Center in Virginia Beach, VA, it was decided to transport the seal to the Aquarium to be rehabilitated.
