Music majors or minors will rehearse according one of the two schedules, depending on audition results:

Schedule #1
UNCW String Ensemble (6:30 - 7:20 p.m. Tuesday)
Wilmington Symphony (7:30 - 9:30 p.m. Tuesday)

Schedule #2
UNCW String Ensemble (6:30 - 7:20 p.m. Tuesday)
Wilmington Symphony Youth Orchestra (7:30 - 9:00 p.m. Thursday)

Other string students may choose to enroll in only the UNCW String Ensemble (6:30 - 7:20 p.m. Tuesday)

GOALS of the COURSE : to rehearse and perform works from the orchestral repertory, with the emphasis on Western European classical music but also including a smaller selection from a variety of other styles including jazz, musical theater, etc.

Enrollment: by audition only (for fall semester, auditions are held one week before the first Tuesday of classes; for spring, auditions are held the Monday night immediately prior to the first Tuesday of classes)

Grading: grade is based on class participation as shown through attendance

Scale- Absences from regular rehearsals for which your instrument is required

0 - 2 = A
3 - 4 = B
5 - 6 = C
7 - 8 = D
9+ = F


Absence from a dress rehearsal or concert will result in lowering of one full letter grade. You must attend the entire rehearsal to be counted present.

Call Mrs. Riesz (791 9262, message box 3) before rehearsal if you have to miss, and make sure that you get your music to your stand partner if you share a stand.
