In July and August 2007, Russell gave lecture/demonstrations at the European Conference on African Studies, in Leiden, NL and at the first International Conference on Afro-Hispanic Studies Across the Disciplines, in Accra, Ghana. Topic: African Commonalities in Music from Rural Brazil and the United States.
Russell recently authored essays on the lives of bluesmen Blind Lemon Jefferson and Huddie "Leadbelly" Ledbetter for the second volume of the Encyclopedia of African-American History, to be published by Oxford University Press later this year.
Russell was featured in the August 2006 issue of Just Jazz Guitar magazine with an extensive interview and a lesson article on using melodic fragments in improvisation.
Bob Russell's 2005 CD, ...if you never..., is a collection of live-in-the-studio trio performances featuring Russell on guitar, Kevin Kolb on keyboards and Arlin Strader on drums. With a mix of standards and original compositions, ...if you never... is available through CD Baby.

Bob Russell's debut CD, Watch This!, was released in 2002. Watch This! is a collection of original jazz compositions featuring Russell on electric guitar, acoustic guitar, bass and keys.
