Expectations and
Requirements:
Attendance: Please be prompt to voice class, private
lessons, coachings and Tues. performance
seminar. Inform professor in writing
concerning excused absences (faculty mailbox or email).
Practice/Preparation for Lessons: Evidence of vocal improvement through regular
practice. At least one hour a day, five
days a week! All translations/IPA must
be in your score and you must also know word-for-word what you are
singing. Have some idea about the
meaning of the text, and do the necessary research in the library. Completion of a weekly
practice journal. See the
accompanying preparation sheet for further assistance.
Repertoire: Repertoire
for the senior recital must be selected partially from Level Four. Repertoire
for the junior recital must be selected partially from either Level Three or
Four. However, some repertoire for study and performance may be selected from
appropriate lower levels. Students will
be responsible for purchasing the scores of all music performed on their
recitals. The Junior Recital must be at
least 20 minutes in length; the Senior Recital must be at least 40 minutes in
length.
Recital Permission: The student who is preparing for
either a junior or a senior recital must first present this recital to the
major field committee for approval before being allowed to present the recital
to the public. Recital hearings should
be scheduled by the instructor with the department chairman as early as six
weeks, but no later than four weeks, prior to the tentatively scheduled date
anticipated for the recital. Presentation is to be in the form of the
recital. All music must be memorized, except for chamber pieces.
Translations: Students are required to email their complete translations to their
instructor one month prior to the recital for formatting. All diacritical marks must be inserted!
Dress Rehearsal: Dress rehearsal time will be scheduled during the Upper
Level Master Class. Students are
expected to present the entire recital, in their concert attire.
Evaluation of
Student Effort and Accomplishment:
At the time of the recital jury, the
student will receive a letter grade for effort.
This grade is an indication of where the recital is currently, and can
be improved by the performance. The
final grade will come from the recital.
