Objectives
Mus 115, Survey of Music Literature: This course is designed to increase the
student's knowledge of music through the study of Òwestern artÓ music beginning
with JS Bach and then continuing through, Handel, Vivaldi, Haydn, Mozart,
Beethoven, Schubert, Berlioz, Tchaikovsky, Wagner, Debussy, Stravinsky,
Schoenberg, Berg, Copland, Crumb, and Glass. Music characteristics such as
dynamics, melody, rhythm, form, texture, genre, timbre, harmony and
style/emotion are explored with each piece studied.

Requirements
A. Concert
Attendance
During the semester you are required to attend
three concerts. You will write a
synopsis/observation/reaction of the concert. The reports must be received within ONE WEEK of the concert. The papers should be at least one and one-half pages, double
spaced, 12pt. font, and are to be typewritten.
