Requirements * Attendance is mandatory. On weeks of
Departmental Seminar (the last Tues of each month 3:30 -5pm) we will not have
Studio. All Music Majors and
Minors are required to attend Departmental Seminar. Please see schedule below.
* All students are
required to purchase materials ASAP
including a metronome and tuner.
REEDS ARE ALSO
YOUR RESPONSIBILITY. Please
come prepared with your
own
reeds. We will explore reed making
and
adjustments, and I will be happy to work on your reeds
for you.
* Music Majors are
required to attend ten concerts per
semester. At least six of
these should be concerts where
the bassoonist is not the performer. Music Minors are
required to
attend five concerts.

– goal setting (Note – Departmental Seminar is on Tuesday. Usually we would not have Studio this
day, but this is an exception.)
September 1 – Labor Day – no studio
8 – Sectional Rehearsal
15 – Duets/Trios – Reed Making
22 – Performance/Critique
29 – No Studio (Departmental Seminar) Dr. White is also giving a lecture recital this night at
7:30pm. If you are free, please
plan to attend.
October 6 – Fall Break
13 – Sectional Rehearsal
20 – Reed Making/Performance Critique
27 – No Studio – Departmental Seminar
November 3 – Sectional
Rehearsal
10 – Wilmington Symphony Dress Rehearsal – 7:30pm at Trask
Coliseum – attend if you are available. This will be your Studio for the week.
17 – Performance Critique/Jury Preparation
24 – Performance Critique/Jury Preparation (Note –
Departmental Seminar is Tuesday, but being so close to Juries, we need to meet.)
December 1 – Final
Studio – Jury Prep/Reed Adjustment if necessary
Bassoon Lessons
Studio Goal
This course is directed toward preparing
the bassoon student to become a proficient instrumentalist, artist and/or
teacher. Lessons are designed to
provide the student with an opportunity to become familiar with different
materials, and approaches in performance and pedagogy. Each student will be expected and
required to develop his/her own goals as a player and as a teacher.
Please come prepared and warmed up for your
lesson. All students are expected
to purchase materials including, etude books, sheet music (no copies allowed),
reeds, reed making tools and accessories.

0-3 absences = B, 4 absences =C, etc)
