2008-2009 New Faculty Profiles
Department of Physics and Physical Oceanography
Dr. Dylan E. McNamara, Assistant Professor, will begin his tenure-track assistant professor position in the Physics and Physical Oceanography Department in the fall of 2008. Dr. McNamara received his MS in Physics from San Diego State University. He received his PhD in Oceanography from the Scripps Institution of Oceanography at the University of California, San Diego. His PhD dissertation, “Emergence in Coupled Human-Landscape Interactions: Combined Numerical and Agent-based Models for Barrier Island Resorts and Flood Disaster and Response in New Orleans,” involved development and testing of numerical models simulating the dynamical behavior of natural systems that are significantly impacted by human interactions. This work has resulted in publications in the Journal of Geophysical Research and Geomorphology. His expertise is in the field of human natural interactions, complex systems research and coastal fluid dynamics.
