Dr. Kristen E. DeVall, Assistant Professor, holds a BA in Sociology and Political Science (public law concentration), MA in Sociology, and a PhD in Sociology with an emphasis in Applied Sociology and Criminology from Western Michigan University. Her dissertation, The Theory and Practice of Drug Courts: Wolves in Sheep Clothing?, examined the degree to which drug courts are therapeutic and, therefore, the degree to which they can meet the basic human needs of the program participants. He areas of interest within the fields of Sociology and Criminology include: drug courts, social policy, juvenile delinquency, applied sociology, research methods, and statistics. She is currently an assistant evaluator for three drug court programs in Kalamazoo, Michigan (juvenile, men’s, and women’s) and the lead evaluator for the Van Buren County Unified Drug Court Program in Paw Paw, Michigan.
