Description: To provide concurrent glider/ship/buoy data for glider instrument calibration. Documentation of Hurricane Wilma impact and post-hurricane response. Observation of horizontal and vertical patchiness near permanent buoys. Satellite data ground truthing with large-scale chlorophyll fluorescence data.
Date Today's Report
4-Nov-2005 Today we recovered the glider aboard the R/V Cape Fear. The glider surfaced a few minutes after we arrived on station, and the recovery went well. The science files will be downloaded and made available soon. The CTD pressure sensor failed again on this mission. We will contact Webb Research to try to fix this problem. There was a mission abort this morning around 12:20, the glider successfully restarted the recovery mission after spending 2.5 hours on the surface.
3-Nov-2005 This morning Jeff changed the mission to Recovery.MI. This is in preperation for tomorrows planned recovery aboard the R/V Cape Fear. The current mission has the glider going between two nearby waypoints and coming to the surface every 80 minutes. This should make locating the glider easier.
2-Nov-2005 Today the glider reached the west waypoint near ILM2 and made the turn back offshore. Additional files were sent from the glider and the system was reset this afternoon. The current mission was sequenced several times and the glider continued on toward the east waypoint.
1-Nov-2005 Today the glider has made good progress toward ILM2. There was an abort today as a result of the same depth bug.
31-Oct-2005 The glider successfully reached the east waypoint and turned back to ILM2. We have again had good comms with the glider every 4 hours.
30-Oct-2005 The glider has nearly reached the offshore waypoint. We have had consistent comms over the past two days and have received 7 files during every surface event.
29-Oct-2005 The glider has taken a southern track to ILM3. However, progress is still good toward the offshore waypoint. The glider seems to have corrected for the south current it has encountered.
28-Oct-2005 The glider is making good progress toward the offshore waypoint. According to buoy ILM2, currents are less than we had at the end of the last mission and of course there is no biofouling on the glider. Yet. One "same depth" abort occurred overnight. This is a known bug that we work around by sequencing multiple copies of the same mission.
27-Oct-2005 Launch from R/V Sea Hawk. Simple 3 yo mission completed in 8 minutes. Sequenced 8 OB1V04.MI missions. Continual transects programmed between ILM2 and ILM3. Vehicle is headed offshore towards ILM3.
