Description: To provide concurrent glider/ship/buoy data for glider instrument calibration. Observation of horizontal and vertical patchiness near permanent buoys. Satellite data ground truthing with large-scale chlorophyll fluorescence data.
Date Today's Report
5-Jun-2006 The mivig601.mi mission was teminated at 0123 UTC this morning. The glider began the mivig600.mi mission to bring the glider back inshore. So far the glider is not making any progress back to ILM2. At 10:00 EST this morning we decided to attempt a recovery. At 3:30 we had recovered the glider and returned to the dock. The data will be downloaded from the glider later this week.
4-Jun-2006 The glider is still fighting a north current and losing ground toward EILM3.
3-Jun-2006 The glider seems to be caught in a strong current and is headed off course to the north.
2-Jun-2006 Wendy sequenced mission m1v1g601.mi and turned off current correctionafter glider became caught in a strong coastal current .
1-Jun-2006 The glider is moving very slowly towards ILM2.
31-May-2006 The glider is still making slow progress towards the ILM2 waypoint and is nearly 3/4 of the way there.
30-May-2006 The glider is struggling to make it back inshore to the ILM2 waypoint.
29-May-2006 The glider is nearly halfway to the EILM2 waypoint and seems to be working normally.
28-May-2006 The glider has made it to the NEILM3 waypoint and is now heading back inshore. All systems appear normal.
27-May-2006 The glider reached GS2 and is heading towards the NEILM3 waypoint at warp speed. Everything is functioning normally.
26-May-2006 The glider made it to EILM3 and continues to make slow progress towards GS2. Several data transmissions were unsuccessful, however the problem was corrected after Wendy rebooted the dockserver.
25-May-2006 In the last 24 hours the glider has made it half way to the EILM3 waypoint. Everything seems to be working well.
24-May-2006 Today we were able to meet the glider near the ILM2 waypoint and do some cleaning and maintenance. We then sequenced the m1v1g00.mi and m1v1g0n.mi missions and sent the glider on its way.
23-May-2006 The glider is still heading inshore toward the ILM2 waypoint for some cleaning on Wednesday. Wendy turned the current correction off to help speed up the glider.
22-May-2006 Wendy put the glider into lastgasp.mi and turned the freewave on for the length of the surface event to prepare for the maintenance recovery. Unfortunately, the weather prevented us from reaching the glider and Wendy put it back into m1v1g600.mi to bring it closer to shore and we will try again on Wednesday.
21-May-2006 The glider is slowly heading inshore toward the ILM2 waypoint.
20-May-2006 The glider reached the EILM waypoint at 1139 UTC this morning. Wendy changed the mission to m1v1g600.mi to bring the glider inshore for a scheduled cleaning on Monday.
19-May-2006 The glider is headed offshore toward the EILM3 waypoint.
18-May-2006 The glider reached the ILM2 waypoint at 1:07 UTC this morning. It made the turn and is currently headed back offshore.
17-May-2006 The glider has made good progress and is near the ILM2 waypoint.
16-May-2006 The glider has continued to make good progress as it heads inshore.
15-May-2006 The glider is making steady progress back inshore toward ILM2.
14-May-2006 The glider reached the NEILM3 waypoint at 15:26 UTC today. The glider is now heading inshore toward the ILM2 waypoint.
13-May-2006 The glider reached the GS2 waypoint at 14:09 UTC today. There seems to have been a strong current around the waypoint, the track was a little off from the transect line. The glider is making great progress despite the currents and previous problems we have had this far offshore.
12-May-2006 The glider reached the EILM3 waypoint at 15:13 UTC today. After achieving the wypt, the glider made the turn to the southeast toward GS2. Progress is still very good and comms have been very reliable.
11-May-2006 The glider has made great progress toward the EILM3 waypt today. Despite windy conditions today, the glider as stayed very close to the transect line.
10-May-2006 The glider was deployed today from the R/V Seahawk. Several operational changes were made for this deployment. The mission files were restructured to allow faster changes between waypoint lists. Also, the glider will do comms every 2 hours during a normal gps fix, eliminating the separate surface event to send data. This will shorten the overall time spent at the surface.
