The Office conducts numerous surveys and assessment initatives during the course of an academic year. The results of this work are used by key decision-makers to inform policy decisions. Each initative has a corresponding link within the left-side navigation. Throughout the course of the year, we will update this section of the site as research becomes available. In general, the following graph represents the core of assessment for OIRA.

Update Summer 2007: UNCW strives to build assessment and reporting systems which both aids both its students and its faculty in fostering success and recently employed the use of the Noel-Levitz Retention Management System (RMS) and corresponding College Student Inventoy (CSI) for the Class of 2011. Over 1850 freshmen participated in the Inventory and their results will be shared both to them as individuals and to their faculty advisors as part of an overall holisitic, integrated retention effort geared towards increasing student success.
Update Fall 2007: As of November 2007, 300 UNCW freshmen completed the first in a series of learning outcome assessments through the Collegiate Learning Assessment (CLA). Results from the Freshman CLA administration will be cross-sectionally compared to outgoing UNCW Seniors Spring 2008.
Update Spring 2008: Results of the cross-sectional CLA administration were reviewed by various members of the faculty and academic administration. Upon review, it was determined the longitudinal component would provide much needed context for differences in performance.
Update Fall 2008: OIRA conducted the CSI for the second year. A post-hoc analysis is planned to ascertain how 'well' the CSI predicted student drop-out.
Update Spring 2009: Phase two of the longitudinal analysis was completed. Freshmen who started in Fall 2007 were recruited to participate in the second phase of the study as sophomores.
Update Fall 2009: The following assessments are scheduled:
College Student Inventory
CIRP
NOTE: Due to rounding, percentages may exceed 100%.
