Monday, April 6, 1:00-2:00 p.m., Masonboro Island Room (FSC 2011).“Funding Opportunities through the North Carolina Biotechnology Center”  Presented by Cynthia J. Sollod, Ph.D., Science & Technology Development Programs Manager, NCBC. The North Carolina Biotechnology Center is a state-funded economic development non-profit organization established in 1984.  Since its creation, it has made more than $200 million in awards through its funding programs in research, business, and education.  This presentation will also provide potential applicants with in-depth information on the research grant programs, including the Biotechnology Research Grants, the Multi-disciplinary Research Grants, the Collaborative Funding Grants, the Institutional Development Grants, and the Oliver Smithies Faculty Recruitment Grants.  Grant programs for education and commercialization will also be briefly discussed.

The Office of Research Services and Sponsored Programs (ORSSP) is the service unit on campus responsible for the oversight of externally sponsored programs. ORSSP provides complete sponsored programs administration and support including

  • identifying funding sources
  • assisting faculty in proposal development
  • electronic proposal submission, and
  • monitoring funded projects.  

It is the administrative unit responsible for seeing that the university remains in compliance with federal and state policies pertaining to research, serving as the coordinating office for human and animal compliance activities and in the cases of Intellectual Property, works with the Office of Technology Transfer to transfer research-derived technology into commercial use.
