Building your budget

Date: March 6, 2008

Time: 9-10:30am

Instructor – Pam Whitlock.  Want to write a proposal?  Does the budget form look like it’s written in Greek?    Contractor or Consultant?   What IDC/F&A do I use?  How do I budget fringe benefits?  Come learn how to design a budget that reflects your needs and fits within sponsor and university requirements.

Grants.gov and the new Adobe Forms

Date: March 24

Instructor - MJ Carver West. The Adobe forms transition is coming sooner than predicted. NIH leadership will be announcing some Adobe forms applications between now and the June deadline. Don't be caugh off-guard. Learn how to use these new interactive forms before you submit.

Grants for Art, Theatre and Music

Location: Cultural Arts Building, Room 2005

Time: 3:30-5 pm

Instructor - Elizabeth Demski. The workshop will be primarily for beginners to moderately experienced grant writers who want help finding funding opportunities in art/music/theatre and acquiring techniques to write proposals to fit the requirements of various types of funding agencies.

Cost transfers, overages, errors

Date: April 7, 2008

Instructor – Pam Whitlock.  How long do I have to correct a charge?  What if I overspend my grant?  I just found out my P-card charges landed on the wrong grant!  Come learn how to avoid incorrect charges and why it’s so important to make sure they go against the correct one.  Don’t make your department absorb costs that have to be moved from your grant.

NSF FastLane

Date:  April 21, 2008

Location: Hoggard Hall, Room 133A

Time:  2-3:30pm

Instructor – MJ Carver West.  Learn the ins and outs of the National Science Foundation's FastLane system. FastLane uses the World Wide Web to facilitate the exchange of information between the NSF and its client community including researchers, reviewers, research administrators, and other doing business with NSF.

How to Comply with the IRB

Date: April 23, 2008

Time: 3-4 pm

Instructor - Leanne Prete. IRB requirements will be reviewed, common compliance problems will be highlighted, and strategies for avoiding non-compliance will be discussed.

Export Controls: What You Need to Know

Date: April 25, 2008

Instructor - Leanne Prete. The export control regulations will be explained and the audience will learn about how the regulations impact the campus community.

Time and Effort Certification - how and why

Date: May 29, 2008

Location: Hoggard Hall, Room 116

Time: 2-3:30 pm

Instructor - John Finn. This session will explain why the university is required to obtain time and effort certifications from all non-hourly employees and PIs each academic term and summer, how to complete the certification properly, impact of corrections to salaries and processing of salary reallocations and the dire consequences of having all grants for a subject PI frozen if certifications are not returned.

Managing Grant Funds

Instructor – Pam Whitlock.  You just got your award notice.  Now what?  How do you hire a student?  What’s this about advertising for a new employee – I already know who I want to hire!  Who do I talk to about how much money I have left?  This 90  minute session talks about the why’s and how’s to manage those fabulous grant dollars in a way that helps you achieve your objectives.

 

RAMSeS – What the heck is it?  Instructors – Pam Whitlock and Steve Meinhold.  RAMSeS – what it is and how it can help you.  Our new database and electronic routing system has lots of potential.  Learn how it can make your job easier from internal forms to remembering what your IRB or IACUC protocol number is.
