Mark Werbeach has over 10 years of experience in university student and academic affairs. He provides leadership and direction to the Office of Student Success. Previously, he served as a Career Counselor at UNCW. Mark has always had a strong interest in helping other people reach their goals. He received a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Kent State University in Ohio. He then went onto obtain a Master of Science in Counselor Education from Radford University in Virginia. Outside of work, Mark enjoys playing competitive volleyball, cornhole, and kitesurfing on sunny days.

Student Success Advisor

Patti Schulz has been an Academic Advisor with UNCW since Feb 2006. She has over 21 years of experience in the Higher Education field and has been a professor of Psychology for over 18 years. Patti received her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Houghton College in New York. She then went on to receive her first Master’s degree from Baylor University in Waco, Texas. She received her Master’s degree in Educational Psychology and enrolled in the Licensed Professional Counselor Program in her Master’s degree. Later, she received a second Master’s degree and majored in Business Administration (MBA) from the University of North Carolina. She currently works as an Academic Advisor for the College of Health and Human Services for UNCW as well as an Instructor for UNI 101 at UNCW.  Patti has been taking flying lessons and hopes to receive her pilot’s license, she also enjoys running, golf, hiking, white water rafting, and any outdoor activities.

Leah has been an academic advisor for over two years and prior to that coached college basketball for almost nine years. Leah is dedicated to student success and strives to make sure that each student has the resources and guidance to help them develop academically, professionally and personally during their time at UNCW. Leah received an Associate of Arts in Liberal Arts from Southwestern Illinois College and a Bachelor of Science in Communications from Austin Peay State University. Leah then received her Master of Arts in Education from the University of Phoenix and a Master of Arts in Physical Education from the University of North Carolina Pembroke. In her free time, Leah enjoys watching and playing sports, working out, reading, watching movies and spending time with friends and family.

Student Success Advisor

Vicci White started out as a K-12 teacher and coach. During the last 10 years she served as a Career Counselor at Occidental College in California, as a Career Manager at the University of Idaho and now as a College of Health and Human Services Student Success Advisor. Vicci is passionate about helping others - whether students, colleagues, or community members. She received a Bachelor of Arts in Education: Physical Education at Pacific Lutheran University in Washington and a Master of Arts: College Student Affairs from Azusa Pacific University in California. Vicci can be found puttering around the house, playing cards, kayaking, or enjoying the beach when she is not at work.

Phil Hardy has been an advisor in the Office of Student Success since August 2014. Prior to joining the OSS staff, he provided advising and programming support for transfer, veteran and first-year students at the University of South Carolina. He also has previous advising experience in the community college system at Midlands Technical College. Phil received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Government from Campbell University and a Master of Education degree in Higher Education and Student Affairs from the University of South Carolina. His goal is to help students become winners in and out of the classroom. Phil enjoys meeting new people, spending time with friends and family, playing basketball, wearing bowties and exploring North Carolina!

Jennine Strange became a Student Success Advisor in the Office of Student Success in August 2014. She had previous experience as an academic advisor for student-athletes at the University of Central Florida. Jennine received a Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Sports Science from Elon University, and a Master of Science degree in College Student Affairs from Nova Southeastern University. She is passionate about guiding students in achieving their educational and career goals. In her free time, Jennine enjoys spending time at the beach, running, and cheering on the Baltimore Ravens!

Natalie Bernardina has been an academic advisor for over three years. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from the College of Charleston in Charleston, SC. She earned her Masters of Education in Higher Education in Student Affairs from the University of South Carolina in Columbia, SC. She has previously worked as an academic advisor at Shaw University in Raleigh, NC and University of South Carolina – Aiken in Aiken, SC. Her passion is for helping students get the most out of their education and time in college. In her free time Natalie enjoys spending time at the beach, reading, traveling and hanging out with family and friends.

Becky became a part of the Office of Student Success in January 2015. She came to UNCW from Cape Fear Community College where she counseled and advised students in Allied Health Programs, among other disciplines. Becky was a High School Guidance Counselor in Georgia for twelve years where she advised students and assisted with options for college. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Louisiana State University in General Studies (Sociology) and her Master of Education degree from Georgia Southern University in Counselor Education. She loves working with students to help them reach their life goals. When not working with students, she enjoys playing tennis, running, boating, watching college football (Geaux Tigers!) and spending time with friends and family, which includes her Golden Retriever “Brooks.”

Ashley Auerbach has been an advisor in the Office of Student Success since March 2015. Prior to working at UNCW, Ashley was a college counselor at Wake Technical Community College where she provided academic advising, career counseling, personal counseling, and community outreach services. Ashley concurrently received a master’s degree in college counseling and student development from North Carolina State University and a license as a National Certified Counselor in 2011. She also holds a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from San Diego State University in her home state of California. Ashley is passionate about providing inclusive, accessible, and effective student support services in the area of higher education and strives to advocate for and empower students in all of her sessions. In her spare time, Ashley enjoys staying active by playing beach volleyball, basketball, snowboarding, and exploring the beaches and mountains with her dogs.

Kristen started as a Student Success Advisor in the Office of Student Success in March 2015. A Greenville, NC native, she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education in 2006 from Appalachian State University in Boone, NC, and after teaching 3rd grade in Charlotte, NC for 2 years, went on to receive her Master of Arts in Higher Education- Adult & Developmental Education in 2011 (also from Appalachian State). She also has a graduate certificate in Post-secondary Learning Support from the University of Florida. Before coming to UNCW, Kristen served as an Academic Coordinator for Athletes both at George Mason University in Fairfax, VA and East Carolina University in Greenville, NC. Most recently, she served as Training Coordinator in the Office of the Registrar at the University of West Florida in Pensacola, FL. Kristen is passionate about helping students achieve both personal and professional success, and is interested in assisting students with overcoming the unique challenges they each face. In her free time, Kristen enjoys spending time with her husband, 18-month old daughter, and cat, as well as reading, playing the violin, and running.

Mark Forbes has been an advisor in the Office of Student Success since April 2015. Mark has worked as an academic advisor and social science professor since 2011. Mark received a Bachelor Arts degree in History from the University of New Hampshire and a Master of Science degree in Education from the University of New England. In his free time, mark enjoys watching and playing sports, motorcycle riding, wood-working, and spending time with his two sons.

RIBN Student Success Advisor

Erin Luce has over 9 years of experience in nursing.  She spent the first part of her career in Adult Inpatient Surgical Services and continues to work in the Surgical Trauma Intensive Care Unit part-time at NHRMC.  In April 2013, Erin started a new role at the University as the RIBN Student Success Advisor for a dually enrolled nursing program with the community college and UNCW.  Erin has always had a passion for nursing and helping others.  Advising was a natural progression in her career because she can advise and guide students into a field she is already passionate about!  Erin received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  She is currently enrolled at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro to complete a Master of Science in Nursing Education program.   In her spare time, Erin enjoys spending time with her family, reading, running, going out to eat and drinking chai tea!

Administrative Associate

Linda Kleckner has been with UNCW since 2005, having started at the School of Nursing, Student Services Office, then transitioning to the Office of Student Success when the School of Nursing became a part of the College of Health and Human Services in 2012.  She provides administrative support to the advisors in the Office of Student Success.  She is in the midst of completing her Bachelor of Arts degree in History, with a hopeful graduation date of May 2017.  Linda is a native of Wilmington, which means she loves the beach.  She also loves to travel, is an excellent cook, and loves to read.
