School of Social Work Scholarships

Application Process

All prospective and accepted School of Social Work students are required to fill out UNCW Scholarship Application in MySeaport and encouraged to complete their FAFSA to be eligible to receive awards from the university, college or school.

Review Process

Scholarship Applications will be reviewed in Spring to select recipients for the following academic year.

The Alice & Britt Preyer Scholarship in Social Work was created by Alice and Britt Preyer. The scholarship will be used to assist students interested in pursuing a degree offered by the School of Social Work in the College of Health and Human Services.

Criteria

Applicant must be accepted to UNCW with an interest in pursuing a degree offered by the School of Social Work and may be an undergraduate or graduate student. Financial need will be a secondary consideration. He or she must have an overall grade point average of 3.0. Student must undertake full-time (12 credit hours) status each semester. Student must exhibit evidence of excellent service work and must demonstrate a continuing commitment to service above and beyond the requirements set forth by the School of Social Work.

The Dr. Maria O’Neill McMahon Scholarship in Social Work

This scholarship (when offered) honors the dedication to social work education and practice exhibited by the late Dr. Maria O’Neill McMahon. Dr. McMahon was the founding Dean of the School of Social Work at East Carolina University and was instrumental in helping UNCW create its School of Social Work. Scholarship can be applied to tuition and/or books.

Criteria

Applicant must be enrolled as a candidate for the BSW degree, eligible for senior status, and maintain an overall grade point average of 3.0 at the end of spring semester. Student must undertake full-time (12 credit hours) status each semester. Student must exhibit evidence of excellent service work and must demonstrate a continuing commitment to service above and beyond the requirements set forth by the School of Social Work.
