Greeting from the Chair

Dr. Tom Schmid, Chair

This website will introduce you to the excellent program and faculty of our department. Students with a Philosophy and Religion major can choose to concentrate in either Philosophy or Religious Studies, and in those concentrations can take a wide range of courses, ranging from Music in Ancient Israel to Modal Logic, Religion in Popular Culture to Contemporary Philosophical Thought, Bioethics to Biblical Greek. We have an active faculty committed to undergraduate teaching, engaged in a variety of research interests, and involved through service to the university and larger community in a number of ways.

Please take a few moments to browse through the website and see what we are about. In addition to information on current and next semester’s courses, you will find information for students on the major and minor, scholarships, the newsletter, the PAR student club, and events and programs related to the department. Each semester we will also feature a PAR student, with a brief account of his or her academic and career interests.

Please contact us if you have any questions.
