Chancellor DePaolo called the meeting to order at 2:00 P.M.
The minutes of the March 8, 2011 meeting were approved as posted on the web.
- Dr. McFarland presented an overview of the "Our Vision for 2020" open forums of March 30 and 31, 2011.
GOAL I: Most powerful learning experience
Reduce minimum number of ours required for graduation from 124 to 120 to h elp with the 4 and 6-year graduation rates.
Require student portfolios that will demonstrate that students have achieved university learning goals to supplement the traditional transcript.
GOAL II: Quality faculty and staff
Increase average faculty salaries from the 80th percentile to the 85th percentile.
Provide a family tuition benefit to UNCW employees.
Create progress measure for faculty and staff professional development.
Commit the university to active recruiting, not passive recruiting.
GOAL IV: Global citizenry
Build a second International House for students to increase the number of international students living on campus.
Improve the assessment of global citizenry.
Rely on the increased use of technology to bring the world to UNCW.
Rely more heavily on international students to expose UNCW students to the world.
GOAL VI: Safe and sustainable campus
Create progress measure for UNCW’s carbon footprint.
Create a progress measure for reduced energy consumption.
GOAL V: Regional engagement
Add service learning.
GOAL VII: Financial support
Go Global—use QEP and campaign funds to provide 200 $1,000 competitive study abroad travel stipends for students to mitigate the rising costs of air travel.
Add UNCW master plan
Add UNCW diversity plan
- Timetable for "Our Vision for 2020"--Dr. McFarland informed the Council that the final draft of Our Vision for 2020 initiatives and supporting progress measures/accountability measures would be presented for discussion at the May 10, 2011 Council meeting.
- Two subcommittees were established to work on the final drafts of the Vision for 2020 initiatives. Dr. McFarland, Mr. Clark, and Mr. Lanier agreed to serve on the iniatives subcommittee. Dr. McFarland, Dr. Cordle, Dr. Roer, and Dr. Barth agreed to serve on the accountability measures subcommittee.
The meeting adjourned at 3:15 P.M.
