Mr. Lanier presented a
tabulated summary of results compiled from the Web-based identity and core
values survey. (See http://www.uncw.edu/planning/upqc/whoarewewhatareourvalues.121503.htm.) He pointed out that UNCW’s blend of teaching
and research appeared frequently in the responses.
The Council continued
discussion toward the formulation of a statement of identity and core
values. In response to a question,
Chancellor DePaolo agreed that the university’s core values may best be
presented in a bulleted list. The
discussion included these comments.
Tyndall: We are a community promoting scholarship
and diversity.
Wetherill: The university encourages creative thinking
and offers a small college experience.
Seiple: We are a community of learners.
Pilgrim: We are an innovative learning community
that embraces the link between research and teaching.

students with faculty, to excellence in teaching, and to active learning
