Special Reports On Non-Planning Items
State Of Distance Learning
Dr. Ronald Vetter, Department of Mathematical Sciences, gave an extensive presentation on his computer-based course being delivered on campus this semester. His course makes extensive use of multi-media technology, e-mail, and interactive conferencing. He responded to numerous questions and provided an overview of the work involved in developing and administering this course.
Technology Based Academic And Student Support Services
Ms. Li-Shing Wang, Student Affairs, emphasized in her presentation on technology-based academic and student services that institutions should not compromise the quality of service provided to students. The goal is to build a community that would provide services to all student, enhance communication, help retains students, strengthen the university learning community and individualize student learning and support systems. At the present time we do not have enough support needed to support the type of services provided at some other campuses. Her feeling is that when the university moves in this direction, it should move as a whole.
Student Development Services will be administering national exams to UNCW students and community members. The UNCW Computer-based Testing Center is one of only thirty-five university based centers in the country and the only one in North Carolina.
North Carolina Quality Leadership Foundation Award Application
Mr. Fry reported that the North Carolina Quality Leadership Award would go out from the Office of Institutional Research. The Planning Coordinators will be contacted to provide support for the document that will be submitted at the end of March.
