POLITICAL TOUR OF IRELAND AND FRANCE—MAY 2008 Dr Dan Masters of the Department of Public and International Affairs will lead a two week study abroad program to Ireland and France in May of 2008. The political tour will begin in Paris with a French Revolution walking tour of the Latin Quarter. The tour unfolds with trips to the Palais d’Elysees (Presidential Palace), the Palais de Luxembourg (French Senate) and the Chamber of Deputies (Parliament). The French portion of the tour will conclude with trips to the Palace at Versailles and/or a trip to the Louvre. Next we will travel to Ireland beginning the tour in Belfast with tours of the Falls and Shankhill Roads at the center of the Troubles (1969-1998), and a trip to Stormont Castle, site of the power sharing government in Northern Ireland. Next we travel to Dublin to begin a political tour of the Irish Republic including: Dublin Castle, Temple Bar, Trinity College, the Four Courts, Leinster House (Parliament), and Seanad Eireann (the Senate). During our travels from Belfast to Dublin we will also visit major historical sites including Monasterboice and the Hill of Tara, and Newgrange. This three credit hour class includes lectures and discussion on Irish and French politics and their political systems within the broader context of European politics as part of a pre-departure course conducted in the Spring semester 2008.
