Police Alert

May 10, 2013

Dear Campus Community:

We are writing today to inform you about some small fires that occurred on our campus overnight.

At approximately 1:30 a.m., UNCW Police and the Wilmington Fire Department responded to a call concerning five small fires, within about 100 yards of each other, on a path in the wooded area off MacMillan Avenue. The fires were quickly extinquished and no students, employees or structures were in danger at any time.

The cause of these fires is unknown at this time. The Wilmington Fire Department and NC State Bureau of Investigation have been consulted. Additional information may be released when available.

As always, but particularly as we head into the drier summer months, we ask that you remain vigilant about fire safety and any suspicious activity or behavior you believe could pose a risk to our collective well-being. Please report any suspicious activity to UNCW Police at (910) 962-2222 or in case of emergencies, call 9-1-1. Anonymous reports can be submitted online via www.UNCW.edu/police, or by phone at (910) 962-TIPS.

We encourage you to visit www.UNCW.edu/ehs/fire/html for fire safety resources and information. Thank you for your continued attention to campus safety.
