College Access Coaches

College Access Coaches provide in-depth and meaningful campus experiences to youth, parents and school representatives participating in the Pre-College Program. Coaches help students engage in a variety of learning experiences and provide youth participants in the Pre-College Program information about college preparation.

College Access Coaches come from different fields of study. Their majors vary from Information Systems and Communication Studies to Biology, Chemistry and French. Many of them feel that being a Coach provides an opportunity to serve as a role model and a source of inspiration to students pursuing a college education. Coaches “sign-up” for this position for a variety of reasons but primarily to reach out and motivate other students and to give back by helping others. As one coach put it: “I just wanted to become a Coach because I wish I had had one.”

When it comes to what students as Coaches hope to achieve, the answers are ambitious: “I want to help the kids achieve their future goals in education and in their career choices”, states one Coach. Others wish to capitalize on the unique opportunity of a current college student to positively influence a future one.

If you are interested in joining the team as a College Access Coach, please contact the Pre-College Program office at 962-7498, email pre-college@uncw.edu or access the Pre-College Program Employment Application.
