Distance Education Course Information
- When you take a DE course from Engineering Online as part of the
Pre-Engineering Transfer program, you are taking a DE section of a regularly scheduled
NCSU engineering course. Therefore when you finish the course, you
will receive a grade that will become part of your permanent NCSU
transcript even though you most likely have not yet been admitted
as a degree-seeking student at NCSU. If your average GPA in all of
the NCSU DE courses you take is less than a 2.0, you will not be eligible
for admittance to NCSU until you have raised your GPA to above a 2.0.
This is a university admissions requirement and has nothing to do
with distance education or Engineering Online.
- Know your unity
ID and how to use it to access course Web pages and other administrative
Web pages at NCSU. Your unity ID is what you will use to access all
password-protected web site at NCSU. If you are a first time DE student,
your course proctor can look up your unity ID and your NCSU student
ID number with which you create your password but you'll need to check
the Web site above for instructions that help you create your password.
Returning students who don't remember their unity id or didn't keep
it in a safe place will need to consult the Web site. Starting
with the Fall 2007, NCSU will use your unity email address for all
academic correspondance. You will not be able to use a personal or
UNCW email address. You can have the NCSU email server forward
NCSU email to another address.
- Check your NCSU webmail account
often, meaning daily.
- For the courses you take, bookmark the course Web pages in your
Web browser if you own a PC. These will be provided on the course
syllabus and will be an essential part of the course. You should check
these Web pages several times a week because instructors will often
post materials you need without notice. If you want to access a course
Web page from a computer other than your own, you can also find the
course Web pages at engineeringonline.ncsu.edu.
Select "Online Courses" and then "Course Web Site Listing
for the .... Semester".
- Because the course(s) you are taking originate(s) from NCSU, the
calendar
on which NCSU operates may be different from UNCW. This may mean that
the NCSU course starts later or earlier than UNCW courses. It also
means that the course may end later or earlier than UNCW courses,
and exams may have to be taken later or earlier than UNCW exams. It
is your responsibility to plan for this when deciding when to vacate
the UNCW campus or Wilmington for vacation or work. Most instructors
will expect you to take the exam when it is scheduled at NCSU. Do
not assume otherwise.
- When you complete the DE course(s) and receive a grade, promptly
request that a transcript be sent from NCSU to UNCW. This is especially
true if you are receiving financial aid and insurance coverage from
your parents or if you decide to remain at UNCW instead of transferring.
Transcripts can be obtained from NCSU through this
Web site.
- Once you have been registered, it is very important that you verify
that Toni Bellingrath knows
that you are receiving financial aid if you are.
- If any of your registration information such as address, etc., changes,
be sure to update this information at the NCSU mypack.ncsu.edu.
- Unless your DE course(s) has a small enrollment (1 or 2), the textbook
for your course(s) will normally be available from the UNCW bookstore.
Textbooks for any DE course can be obtained from the NCSU
bookstore if need be.
- Many DE courses require engineering paper. It is available from
the UNCW bookstore.
