UNCW Pre-Engineering Transfer Program
Transfer Requirements

The following refers to transferring from UNCW to one of the four colleges of engineering in North Carolina.  (Information on transferring to UNCW can be found at the UNCW Transfer Admissions web site.)  All expect a minimum 2.5 GPA and the completion of what would amount approximately to the first year of an engineering curriculum.

Transfer admissions procedures and requirements for ECU can be found by contacting John Garner at this web site.

Transfer admissions procedures and requirements for NC A&T can be found here.

For NC State, the following courses are required for transfer:

  • Math 161 and 162 (Calculus with Analytical Geometry)
  • Physics 201 (Calculus-based)
  • Eng 101 and 201 (Freshman english composition I and II)
  • Chem 101 (Chemistry and chemistry lab)
  • At least 30 credits total
  • Recommended: computer programming course (Java, C++, or FORTRAN - curriculum dependent)
  • Have a minimum 2.0 GPA in courses taken at NCSU through summer school, distance education, or the Life-long Learning program.

More details can be found here. A 3.0 or higher transfer GPA.  NCSU also requires a 2.5 GPA in the last two calculus courses taken including any calculus or differential equations course in progress at the time you apply.

For NCSU transfer procedures, see Dr. Diehl at least one semester before you intend apply. Apply online at the NCSU "wolfpaw" web site. Your application is more likely to processed faster if you apply online. For fall entrance, apply in December. For spring entrance, apply in early summer. Be sure to read this page for more information on applying to NCSU.

The general transfer requirements for UNCC can be found here and their College of Engineering recommendations here.

Students who previously attended one of the engineering colleges will have to apply for readmission instead of transfer.  All readmission policies will apply.

Transcripts: For any university to which you apply, you will need to send transcripts for every college and community college, including UNCW, you've attended regardless of how few courses you might have taken at a college. UNCW does not "automatically" issue transcripts for you just because you are in this program. This is especially important if your application is "pending" at NCSU. On the UNCW transcipt request form available online or from the Registrar's office, you can specify that a transcript be sent at the end of the semester. This is convenient if one is in their last semester at UNCW.
