I received my Ph.D. in counseling psychology from the University of Iowa.  My areas of interest in which I have done research are eating disorders, hypnosis, the role of spirituality in counseling, vocational psychology, and teaching counseling theories and techniques to students wishing to pursue a career in counseling.

I grew up in Carolina Beach, NC and, after realizing I would always have sand in my shoes, returned to the area when I began working at UNCW in 1975.  By taking this position at UNCW, I have continued a family legacy, and followed in my father’s foot steps as he was the first person to teach psychology at Wilmington College, which later became UNCW.
