I am a clinical psychologist with specialized training in substance abuse and addictions. My program of research involves understanding the role of alcohol in various forms of aggressive behavior. To this end I am interested in understanding the role of cognitive processes in the link between alcohol intoxication and aggressive behavior. To answer these questions I administer alcohol to individuals and assess the manner in which they process social information from hypothetical social situations. In addition, I examine how characteristics such as aggressive disposition and neuropsychological functioning influence this process. Understanding the manner in which intoxicated individuals process social information and what types of individuals are at risk allows for the development of interventions designed to decrease the risk for intoxicated aggression.
I also teach a variety of graduate and undergraduate courses related to clinical psychology and behavioral medicine. If you are interested in my research, teaching or the graduate substance abuse treatment concentration, please feel free to drop me an email.
