Throughout ETEAL's implementation so far, we've developed partnerships with Faculty, students, and community organizations, funded and supported Applied Learning Initiatives, created a community dedicated to Applied Learning practices, and all of that is just the start! ETEAL is involved in everything from sponsoring teaching workshops and events to providing the support and skills needed to carry out applied learning initiatives to assessing the impact of those initiatives on students and the community at large. Since its pilot phase, ETEAL has been working to improve teh quality of education here at UNCW for all our students and faculty. So far our our progress has been astounding, but it's not just ETEAL's progress alone: This is the result of the effort of all the students, faculty, staff, and community partners who work with our Applied Learning Initiatives and Projects.
The UNCW Teaching and Graduate Assistant Institute
As part of an AAC&U campus seminar grant, ETEAL hosted two Graduate Assistant Institutes this fall on August 19th and September 26th. During these events, Teaching Assistants, Research Assistants, and other graduate students engaged in applied learning exercises, discussed course design and development with ALTC faculty, and participated in a variety of group discussion topics including mindfulness, service learning, best practices in applied learning, and practical examples of civic engagement and applied learning that they could implement in the current semester. Here are just a couple of the excellent photos from our September 26th event!
2014 Summer Institute Report
On July 28th and 29th this year, ETEAL hosted our annual Applied Learning Summer Institute for Faculty and staff. The Summer Institue is a two day event where experts from within UNCW and across the nation gather to facilitate workshops on teaching practices and techniques. There are also many activities and discussions within the Institute designed to help Faculty and Staff understand Applied Learning here at UNCW, to formulate Applied Learning lesson plans, to understand how to get the resources and support they need to carry out an Applied Learning initiative, and so much more. If you're interested in hearing more about how this year's Summer Institute went, check out the Summer Institute Report!
