Estuary Research

Linkages between physical, chemical and biotic components of estuaries are the focus of Dr. Courtney Hackney's research in the Biology Department. How plants and animals relate to one another and to their physical environment is necessary to understand human impacts on the estuary.

The Lower Cape Fear River Program is a large-scale water quality and environmental assessment program covering the Cape Fear River Estuary and a large portion of the lower Cape Fear River watershed. The program is located at and administered by the Center for Marine Science at the UNCW.

At UNCW Center for Marine Science, the New River Estuary research have been the subject of several presentations and posters at national water quality conferences.

Estuarine sediment is one of the main focuses in Marine and Environmental Rresearch done by members of the UNCW Chemistry Department.
