Public Beach Research
Dr. Chris Dumas, Economics and Finance, has researched the economic impacts of regulating vehicle access on area beaches and the economic benefits of improvements in coastal ocean information systems.
Dr. James Herstine, UNCW Parks and Recreation Management, assesses public awareness and understanding of Rip Currents at Wrightsville Beach, Carolina Beach and Kure Beach in New Hanover County, North Carolina and assists the North Carolina Sea Grant Program in evaluating the effectiveness of its campaign to educate New Hanover County beach-goers about Rip Currents.
Dr. Lyn Leonard, Spencer Rogers and David Wells, CMS, currently are working on using data and lifeguard observations to predict danerous rip currents partnering with the Coastal Ocean Research and Monitoring Program.
