Open Ocean Research

Dr. Steve W. Ross, Center for Marine Science, and his lab are focusing on the ecology and diversity of open-ocean and deep-sea communities.

Research conducted in the Coastal and Marine Geophysics Laboratory (CMGL) at UNCW's Center for Marine Science primarily focus on areas that include marine tectonics (mid-ocean ridge and subduction zone processes), seabed classification (estuarine and coastal ocean benthic habitats), and geohazards (active faults, submarine landslides and tsunamis, volcanic eruptions).

Coastal Ocean Research and Monitoring Program (CORMP) provides an interdisciplinary science-based framework that supports sound public policy leading to wise coastal use, sustainable fisheries and improved coastal ocean ecosystem health.

Oceanographic Research Program, which was initially funded in 1998, supports efforts by a large number of UNCW investigators and collaborators from other universities and agencies to study the physical, geological, chemical and biological properties of the coastal ocean in the Cape Fear region.
