Please review the UNCW policy for use of CSL for volunteerism efforts prior to recording any time spent in these opportunities on your timesheet. Not all volunteerism is considered valid for use in this policy.
UNCW Policy 08.214 Community Service Leave
Staff Senate encourages it's members along with all UNCW employees to consider volunteering to participate and log hours spent in community service efforts for the purpose of unification and representation of UNCW staff which is directly connected to our mission statement.
Periodically this website will be updated with possible opportunites for volunteering/community service. These are not the only options nor does the Staff Council recommend any one option. It is up to each employee to explore options and find the opportunity that works best for them.
WORK ON WILMINGTON
Saturday, April 17, 2010 8 a.m. - Noon
I’m involved in a program called Work On Wilmington that organizes hundreds of volunteers to do projects (for free!) on Saturday, April 17, 2010 from 8 am – noon. Believe it or not, we have received very few project submissions so far! If you know of a community group that could benefit from four hours of free labor and love, please urge them to submit a program proposal.
Examples of past projects include:
- maintenance and refurbishing work at New Hanover County schools
- painting a fence around a public housing complex
- working on a mural on a downtown parking deck
- cleaning up and landscaping area parks
- installing rubberized floor in the Hanelson Building
The volunteer projects need to be:
- able to be completed in four hours
- show visible impact
- unlikely to happen without the help of Work On Wilmington volunteers
It’s also a great volunteer opportunity.
Thanks for your help.
